Well after seeing some videos as well as other members guns being colour etched I decided to give it a shot. I went with the crayola method and snagged the girlfriends hair dryer. For a first attempt I think it turned out very well. Was super easy to do once the metal got to a good temperature. Think I'll have to do my AR next.

Mine's been in place for a year, haven't had to touch it up. To be honest it looks like the gun oil is acting like a sealer. I use Hoppe's mind you, never touched CLP. YMMV

Cool, so what is the drill for doing this? Some one mentioned hair drier?

Lots of people use a torch but I just grabbed a hair dryer turned it on high and heated up the are to be filled then went over the etched are with a crayon, you'll know it's warm enough when the crayon turns into a liquid. Then just wipe off the excess with a lint free rag, use light pressure to wipe off the excess, otherwise if it's still fairly warm you'll while out the wax in the etching. I used blue shop towels. Then touch up any areas if you need and let it cool. Once it's cool you can be more vigorous cleaning up any excess wax. I was surprised how easy it was to do and how well it works.

From what I've seen and heard at the range, nail polish will last longer and no mucking around with a hair dryer. There are some youtubes on the subject FYI.
