Hey guys I’ve been recently looking around for holsters for the 1871/1872 colt open top revolver, only problem is nobody makes them. Does anyone know if it will fit into a blackpowder 1860 army holster such as the triple K #310?

Some sources that may be useful: El Paso Saddlery. Mernickle. Historicalemporium.com. Carricoleather.com. U.S. leather makers, if that is an issue. Here in Canada: Working Cowboy Leather. Will custom make to your specifications.

The #310 holster might work. Though it may take some fitting. Many 'authentic western'-type holsters that fit 1873 revolvers should work as well.

Edit: Another source: Last Best West. Calgary based. Worth a look.

What style of holster do you seek? Something competitive or more historically correct? I’ve got a right/left strongside pair of non-competitive hi ride slim Jim holsters made for the open tops that I’m not using. Very well made. If you’re interested shoot me a pm with your email for a pic. The 1873 or Vaquero holsters don’t generally work well with open tops because their extractor rod button is so much bigger it hangs up. That’s for a high quality holster that’s formed to the gun. A softer, generic one size fits most holster works ok for carrying but can be a problem for re-holstering (I’ve seen guns hit the dirt because the shooter thought they’d gone into the leather , but....). My 2 cents
