Hi there,

I recently picked up a Colt 1878 Double Action Army in .476 Eley. The action needs some TLC, and the old girl could use a good cleaning. Does anybody have any gunsmith recommendations? Know any gunsmiths that work on antiques and oddball firearms? Has anybody had a positive experience having work done on your own model 1878 or model 1877?

It was suggested that I contact the staff at Rusty Wood Trading Company. However, when I did, they told me they didn't work on the 1878s because "the action is weak." So...back to the drawing board.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

dont ever disassemble if your not VERY mechanically inclined they dont "just fall back together"...you need 4 hands, 3 eyes and a mirror...and do not ever break or loose a spring they are unobtainable unless someone happens to have a broken gun that he will part out.
