Colt 1895 gatling Gun at Auction

Some years ago I had an opportunity to buy a 5 barrel .45-70 Bulldog Gatling, one of a handful made. US$80,000. This was after the RCMP had decided that a manually operated repeating firearm was an automatic weapon. I could have gone South and visited it on occasion. Given the cost of ammunition, the occasional visit would have been OK...

There is a 45-70 reproduction Gatling Gun in Calgary. It is an absolutely beautiful piece and so smooth to rotate. Several years ago, I was in the range while it was being shot, which was pretty cool to see.

Last time I saw it was in the fall and it was lying in a heap of parts on the floor of a LGS. I offered to give it a place of honour in my home so that it didn't need to be mixed in with piles of other parts .... to no avail. :(

There used to be lots of original 45-70 Gatling gun barrels around.

I've seen them loose in cardboard tubes, and guns built with them.

A friend of mine had the plans, and planned to build one in .38 Special....i proposed to size it up to 12gauge...

Sadly he's long gone, and I have no idea what happened to the plans.

30 years ago there was a .22lr locally, I heard it got exported south. It was a thing of beauty.

I still have the blueprints for a 22 version here somewhere. When the laws prohibited them it kind of went o to the back burner. - dan
