Questions about a revolver. I have a colt 1909 army model in 45 Colt RAC inspected of course all serials matching address clear. Some jackass scrubbed United states property off the bottom of the barrel. The question I have is it looks arsenal refurbished. The original commercial finish has been sanded off and a military like finish instead. There is a nice patina on most of the gun now but this puzzles me as I cant find much documentation on this to start with. Has anyone seen one of these refurbed? Were they in a lend lease program? Any ideas?

Originally they were blued in the beautiful bright Colt pre ww1 finish.

They were the last primary service revolver adopted by US forces - mainly as a stop gap when it became clear that the various 1900 thru 1908 auto pistol trials were ending in failure...

A few M.1909 revolvers served as late as ww2, possibly even Korea - presumably still chambered in .45 Colt.

I have seen reference to two m.1909 revolvers which had been rebuilt into .45acp "m.1917" esq. Revolvers - but i doubt that many would have been converted.

US gov't refurbed/rebuilt arms are usually marked as to where they were worked on- any markings under the grips?
