Colt 1911 collection advice

Colt 1911's

I've been at the Colt 1911 game for many years. As far as I'm concerned the only one's to really try to get are the Series 70 Colts and prior. The Series 80 pistols & latter just don't do it for me. Gimme a nice WWII vintage Colt USGI or original Colt 1911 Commercial Government from the 1914 era any day of the week...

Just depends on what you like. I like both new and old Colt 1911's. It's fun just trying to find nice Colts both new and used. When I have time I frequent the local gun shops just to see if any come available. Sometimes you get lucky. Sometimes the anticipation of a new Colt is more fun then knowing you have a nice one in your safe. Just bought a Colt 1903 the other day that came available. It's really cool too. Have you seen the XSE's? They look sweet!

I've got one built in 1916 for the British army. It is actually registered as a 455 with the registry. Unfortunetly the 455 slide and barrell were replaced with a .45 cal and I'd love to bring it back to what it was. Anyway it is still fun to shoot. Apparently if it was original it would be worth a few bucks.

I was wondering which modern colt 1911's should someone try to collect? Any advice?

Thanks

I'm saving up for a Colt Special Combat Govt .45 in hard chrome. There was a great review (still available on the website) a few months ago in the online magazine from M1911 dot org. Likely have to order from the States through Questar but I believe it would be worth it. I love my Kimber but I need that Colt in the stable.

Every Colt 1911 collection should have a nice Colt 1903 as a companion piece...

not really worth collecting anything other then colts if it's 1911's you want.
After you have a good colt base, maybe toss in interesting off shoots like the detonics series, the coonan 357 or the 50 cal one they're building down in texas (?) A kimber collection would just be a bunch of shooters ......not that there's anything wrong with that, but they aren't going to go up in value like original colts....even though their better guns...

FWIW, we bring in Colt pistols from Colt fairly regularly.

Currently available are 1991 Commander in Blue and 1911 Ser. 70 Stainless/Rosewood.

XSE were available until about two weeks ago, supposed to be available again v.soon. Curious what the going opinion is of these?

Cheers,
Walt
