I am on the hunt for a wartime example Colt or Remingto Rand .45 1911. What would be the price range for a nice one, more a collectable than a shooter? Thanks all:)

I notice one on the VG auction site being sold by "zefarm".
It looks pretty nice, and comes with a period holster.
He's started the bidding at $975 which seems reasonable to me if it's in the condition he has described, although its seems his prices are usually a bit high:confused:

When it comes to this type of handgun, you will be able to find examples in any price range. The condition of the handgun will dictate the cost. Over the years I have seen them sell for as low as $400.00 to a high of $1200.00. I set myself a max. price I am willing to pay, then search for what I want. Advertize for what you want, this will usually give you a number of guns to see and choose from. Good hunting.

over on m1911.org there is a forum on those guns. They talk about a range of 300 usd to over 2000 usd. depending on condition and matched parts. Although it seems that even mismatched .45s are starting to appreciate in value now.
Anyway it is a good source of info, and international in scope too.
I picked up an old .45 over xmas, either to resell or shoot, and it turns out that is very collectible
