I have a chance to buy an old Colt revolver and would like to get an idea on its value . It has the following info stamped on it.

The serial number: 204649
Barrel Length 7 1/2 inches to cylinder
Dates: September 18, 1871
July 2, 1872
January 19, 1875

PTSA Manufacturing (MFCo.) Hartford Connecticut

Any help would be appreciated. Russ

Is this a Colt Single Action [SAA] revolver or one of the later double action models?

I think that the patent dates are correct for a Single Action Army - Russ - do a yahoo or google image search on "colt SAA".

Value depends on condition (whether its original), and caliber - the 204### serial number would have been made in 1901-1902. Even beater SAA's go for over $1,000 these days and ones in exceptional condition fetch many times that price.

If it is a .38 special - its probably not original (.38's didn't come out until well into the 20th century). It may be a 38 WCF? (38-40). Colt did make SAA in .38 colt (which would be of a greater value than the .38 WCF).

If you can show a picture - the folks on the board could give you a better idea of cost.

Good luck with your find!

Rick
