Ok guys, I happened into a colt new service 455 eley made to 45 colt.

What can you tell me about it? possible manufacture date? serial 681**
value
Thanks in advance

Manufactured in 1915-17 - during WWI Britain contracted for 100,000 of these (and also for 40,000 S&W Hand Ejector revolvers) chambered in .455. I agree that, having been altered to .45 Colt, it is really just a "shooter" .....

Thanks guys......a shooter it will be:evil: I bought it with no idea of its value.....its a colt.....it is in good condition for an older gun....it shoots.........it was priced right........I didn't own a colt yet.......besides it seems "I am always only one gun away from being satisfied". I know, its a very serious condition, I was doing better until I got a phone call. :bangHead:

How can you tell if it has been converted? Any simple visual clues?

I just purchased a 1915 model in really nice shape.

.... also, will the cylinder close and rotate freely with .45 Colt cartridges chambered .... or, if the conversion was for .45ACP (in moon clips) and .45 Auto Rim, which (also a possibility) then with either of those chambered ....

I currently only have .45ACP shell, it fits flush with the ejector when the brass bottoms out hitting the reduction in the bore at about 1/2 down.
I've ordered some .455 Webley, we'll see how it goes.

I have 2 S&W 455 revolvers & since 455 mk2 Fiocchi ammo is not the easiest thing to find at times if you plan on shooting it a lot you should reload if you don't already . I know there is ammo available at the moment but it dose dry up from time to time .

I don't think I'll be shooting it regularly but I do plan on looking into reloading for it.
