Wasn't sure if this should be in the black rifles or huntin arms forum, so here it is here in general. My question is, "should I trade my Colt for the Mini 14?" I was out this weekend up at my cottage, and couldn't believe the amount of ground hogs out there. My Colt is very accuate, but havn't heard much about the Mini 14 target. Thanks in advance for the opinions.

When someone says to me that the Mini-14 is a "poor man's AR-15", I respond by saying that I'd like to see him hunting with his AR-15.

(In Canada, I mean. )

BobsonofBob has an excellent point. I purchased a brand spanking new Colt AR-15 , back in the time when Dinosaurs roamed the earth, for $375.00. I used it for a couple of years to shoot gophers. I then traded it away for 3 handguns. Needless to say, there have been moments when I've smacked myself in the head for that one.
IMHO, keep the AR and buy a single shot .223 (NEF or H&R) or look at a .17 HMR (it makes gophers go "poot" just like a .223 but is cheaper to shoot) :)

I have a Mini Target and am very pleased with the accuracy it is not as accurate as my Rem 700-P 223 by any means but it sure is a lot of fun popping gophers with it.

AR15's are common and can be replaced at a later date if you desire to have one again so if you can't afford another rifle sell it off and get yourself a non-restricted Mini...

You are so right.

You should have seen what I gave up to get the Colt. It was a custom built Beretta M1 Garand with a Douglas heavy match rifle, NM front and rear sights, Boyds pepper laminate stock, NM oprod. There isn't a day I don't regret trading that thing. And the funny thing is I met the guy who bought it, and he tells me he loves it so much, that when he dies, the rifle is going to be buried with him.

Tell him to preserve it properly before it gets buried with him...

...Lots of cosmoline....

...and send me a map...

...maybe a crate or two of ammo with it...
