Folks looking to extract some knowledge from the CC gang here on CGN. I recently acquired a number of CC uppers and I am trying to confirm some barrel profiles.
Have the following:
- SA15.7 upper, barrel profile is obvious and impressive.
- SAS IUR 10" and SAS IUR 15.7", have seen the "oil pipeline" profile barrels on Nordic Marksman website. I find it tough to see inside the IUR uppers to get a clear picture of the barrel profile but these are tanks.
- 16" MRR upper, seems robust from the receiver to the gas block, then standard from gas block to muzzle.

So, seeking your assistance to get a handle on the MRR profile, is it the same as the IUR 15.7 barrels? Are the Danish and RCMP the same profile?

How different if at all is this profile from the SA 15.7?

Appreciate your insight and knowledge.
Cheers,
Pete

Sa15.7 uses a heavy profile barrel with a simon sleeve.

Iurs iirc of all generations and variants we got sold from the factory are heavy. Sas models iirc have some special coating for the portion of barrel under the hg.

Mrr is a medium profile barrel. They also supposedly have said gucci coating under the handguard.

The dutch iur which we were never sold had a pencil profile barrel.

Hope this helps. Cc experts if I gave wrong info feel free to correct me.

The commercially released Dutch uppers are the carbine versions. The short 'hand guard' length was for use with C8 barrels, as the Dutch wanted to be able to use existing C8 barrel inventory. The rifle length versions had a polymer extension, mounted with two cap screws to extend the effective length so that their C7xx barrels could be used as well.

C8 and C8A2 have different barrel profiles. The C8 is 14.5 and what Nordic Marskman has is stock currently. Thin profile tapered out at the muzzle brake.

C8A2 is a 14.5 with thicker barrel profile and constant from muzzle bralw to gas block. Can't find them anywhere.

The C8 and C8A1 could be referred to as the CC pencil barrel. The C8A2 would be a heavy 14.5 profile.

The C8A2 and C8A2-IUR I've handled both had the same barrel profile in 14.5 length.

Dutch setup is currently available at Nordic.

So.....Colt folks, I'm looking at pulling the heavy weight SAS barrel out of one of my SAS IUR uppers and replacing with a slightly lighter CC barrel. I'm very comfortable shooting the SAS IUR upper rail, I like the extended length out over the barrel and the relieved 3 and 9 o'clock picatinny sections. I would like to shave a bit of weight off the barrel as this SAS barrel is overkill for my needs. It appears the profile in the RCMP IUR and the MRR may be more suitable for my needs. I fully intend to install a Colt Canada cold hammer forged barrel.

Any input on potential barrel profiles, weights in the 15.7" - 16" length would be appreciated.

Were the Dutch C7IURs pencil or government profile? I thought they were govenment proflile as they were rebuilds of the original C7s.

Sorry forgot about the c7. I am sure the c7 iur are gov profile. The c8 is definitely pencil profile.

If you really want the cc barrels. The mrr barrel would probably be the ticket. Or the 14.5 pencil barrel and you either cut the fsb off or replace it with a low profile gas block.

If you don't want to mess with gas blocks mrr barrel. If you want the lightest cc option easily available a reworked 14.5 pencil barrel is the way to go.
