Colt Canada SA20 - how to strip

Greetings,

I seek knowledge from those wiser than I.

I have a Diemaco/Colt Canada SA20 that I adore.
While I was quite proficient at shooting it, I was never an "AR guy," or so to say, I have zero experience building or stripping said rifles beyond field stripping for cleaning.
Since Canada is swirling the toilet drain (especially for gun owners), I am entertaining the idea I will invariably be forced to give up my SA20 to the goons.
That's not going to happen. At least, not in it's entirety.
Ideally, I would like to strip the rifle and give them nothing more than a stripped upper and lower receiver.

Exactly what specialty tools will I need to accomplish this?

Will I need one of these?

Or will a generic AR-15 wrench do the job?

I'm hoping I can keep the rifle intact under a grandfather clause, but it's not looking hopeful. So this is Plan B.

Best to find someone who has all the tools already than buy a cheap wrench and possibly wrecking parts.

Or just follow a generic AR how-to and buy a reaction rod and castle nut wrench.
 
You'll need an Ar-15 barrel wrench and the specialized tool Nordic Marksman sells for the receiver extension tube's nut. Also a very long punch for the bolt release's pin. Don't forget to remove the gas tube before you attempt to unscrew the barrel nut. Everything else is pretty straight forward, just watch a tutorial on youtube.
 
If you’re not worried about the receiver extension nut coming off in a pretty fashion you can just use a punch and turn it bit by bit. Same with the barrel nut most likely. I wouldn’t buy a 90 dollar wrench over a single nut.

They revoked its registry, to whom is one expected to report modifications to? There was no clause in the nullification notice mentioning a requirement to do so.
Stripped lower receivers are the only component they can expect any of us to be in possession of. One could easily have sold their upper and only had a stripped lower at the dawning of dip####s OIC and all things considered, not have reported it.
Just my opinion IANAL.

the upper is deemed prohibited, you couldnt get it out of your house after the oic. that would be though to argue. all the other parts you should be fine.

The upper is not the rifle and although prohibited now it does not need to be given to them - you can just get rid of it yourself. Just cut upper in half or something like that.

I called the CFC years ago because I purchased a lower but the cert stated barrel length. Told them I only had the lower and needed a cert stating lower only. They refused as it would not change the classification of the firearm.

I will heed your advice.

Like I said, if there's any option of keeping it intact under grandfather I will.
I am not willing to dewat the rifle.
If they are going to force me to give it up, I want to keep all the parts, they are quality parts.
Perhaps I can build them on a MRA straight pull or whatever.
We will see.
