So I am buying all these CC uppers, but am not seeing any complete lowers anywhere! I've been thinking about buying a couple stripped lowers, but I'm not sure what parts to put in them. What does Colt Canada use for their lower receiver parts. Do they manufacture their parts themselves, or do they use mil spec parts from a supplier? Where could I find a decent parts kit for these stripped lowers?

Also, I've been seeing special tools for assembling ARs...are these necessary? I've been detail stripping guns for years without special tools, I always improvise.

I just want to have an authentic CC lower when I am done.

I would like the authentic if possible. Is there an authentic CC LPK available? Or do they source from different places...a good milspec kit if I can't find it. I certainly would consider the DD LPK.

Your only hope to get authentic colt parts (or really just parts that are purchased by Colt and then redistributed) is to order from Nordic Marksman (Fantastic to deal with run by great people!) or Brownells. Colt and CC source most of the parts from reputable suppliers the same as others do. There are good and not so good LPK suppliers and Colt/Colt Canada use quality parts. Gone are the days of Colt manufacturing everything themselves with a lot of parts having there forge code on it. If they still did this it's price would be a lot more. Outsourcing is the way of the world nowadays.
You still won't find the correct Colt Ambi Selector or 1 marked Norgon Ambi Mag Release (although you can get a Norgon Ambi Mag Release without the one on it from Brownells) unless you can find one off of the EE or buy a complete Colt Canada Ambi-Lower.
The DD trigger and Colt triggers are made from the same forgings (S-S) and are nothing more than mil-spec quality (some are good, some not so much). The DD LPK will give you a magpul trigger guard and standard pistol grip and are quality parts that wont fail you. I would go this way unless you have obsession problems like me and look for the ambi stuff later or just put in some other manufacturer that makes what you like.
If you can't handle not having an exact replica of a complete CC lower then buy once cry once as the cost to piece it together afterwards with all CC/Colt parts is far more than doing it once.

You don't need a lot to assemble a lower but proper tools will do the job much easier and lower the risk of you damaging something. Get a good armorers hammer, wrench and a good roll pin punch set. Get either a magwell block to assemble the lower and a reaction rod or upper vise block if you are going to do any upper receivers. Also buy the right size headed screwdriver for any screws so you don't mash them. Other than that let youtube be you friend. (Oh and I find buying a bolt catch install punch helps out as well).

Thank you Derrob for the detailed explanation and advice. I guess that was silly of me to think they made all their own parts...that would be like apple making their capacitors or Ford making their screws I guess. I'll do my best to source the parts I need. The 1 marked norgon and the ambi selector would be on my list for sure. If I can get them off the EE, all the better. That would be amazing if those kinds of parts are on there. I've asked for access 2 times now and bought a team membership....still nothing.

The punch kit sounds like a good idea. Don't think I'm doing any upper work (yet), but a block for the lower seems like a good idea.

Thanks again!
