Now we're trying to figure out what one of these old colt conversions are worth.

I bought a really nice, but really old, Colt AR conversion. It came with one 10 rd mag. Made a trade with another fella for a CMMG mag but it won't work with my kit.

What I'd like to know, if anyone has good info, is which magazines I require to get my kit to work. I'd like to get some 25 rd mags for the kids and build them their own upper. I think the 25 rd .22 mags and conversion will also be a big plus during the Zombie Appoco LMAO.

The black mag is the one that came with the conversion, shown above the mags. The gray mag is the one that doesn't work, and is up for trade for a magazine that will work.

Colt .22 cal conversion kit

As far as I know this design is exclusve to Colt and the Colt .22 mags work only with the Colt .22 conversion kits, other .22 AR mags do not work although at one time DPMS made a very similar appearing mag that looked like it could work with some modification. Maybe someone else has had luck finding a substitute that could work. gladius 2.

As gladius said, the Colt conversions are proprietary and won't work with other makes. Plus the OEM Colt mags are limited to 10 rnds. A more modern conversion like CMMG or Spikes will accept the Black Dog 26 rnd mags, as well as 50 rnd drums. I'd sell the Colt conversion and put the cash towards a stainless CMMG conversion, or better yet, a dedicated. 22LR upper. Or, keep the Colt as a collectible and get the new conversion anyway.

Damn I don't like the Colt only responses.

HI CAL, from the photo that looks just like the fancy CMMG mag I already have :(

May have to bite the bullet and sell this sucker to someone who wants it, after I find a replacement.

I had a Colt conversion I used with an SP1. You'll be much happier with the stainless CMMG.

Please share? I haven't had any issues at all with the Colt, except the magazine size. The kids and I have much more fun with a proper qty of ammo in the mag and these ten rounders are a little on the boring side :)

The conversion worked okay, but the 10 round mags were a turn off. They were also hard to source and over-priced for what they were. The CMMG conversion was more reliable, larger capacity magazines at better prices and more widely available. But that's just me, your mileage may vary. If you're happy with the Colt, stick with it. Before I sold it, I did manage to pick up several mags on eBay. Might be worth a shot?

So it was the mag that turned you off.

That's what I'm encountering. I only paid $20 and shipping for my conversion and the mag, in it's original packaging with manual. I guess I did ok and it won't be that bad when I go buy the new conversion so that I can have larger capacity mags.
