Hey guys,

Just picked up a mint Colt AR HBAR (#6601) Serial CMH###XX...

I'm looking to have a Colt factory compensator installed...
Did this come with that ring at the compensator or not?

Thanx much,

It's a peel washer. If you look at a lot of parts description they some times say "Canadian Style" peel washer. They are used on C7 and C8.

Yes, without the peel washer you'd be unable to time the flash hider and it would be crooked.

We use crush washers on our C8s. :p

A recent change. All original C7s and C8s used peel washers. Canada didn't start using the crush washer until the adoption of the C8FTHB, C8A3. In fact, I've yet to see a C7A2 that has a crush washer, although I'm sure they'll be used as replacements.

You a tech then? I know they're a bit of a pain but how often are they installed? Don't barrels come from the factory with them already installed? It's actually hard to imagine a situation, other than training, of when you'd have to install one.

To be fair, I can see them being replaced due to damage. I'm sure you know as well as I do that some really stupid crap happens with issue kit/weapons.

Most of the time, when I have to install one, it's because the compensator was loose when I inspected the weapon... Don't know what the #### the user did with it.

Cleaning for inspection or a course. The biggest enemy to service weapons apart from the CQ/SQ taking them into the lock up and rubbing a cleaning patch all over them looking for carbon.

The user took a wrench to it somehow? :p

Saw that plenty of times on course. Guys would take the flash eliminator off to clean it before inspection. There was a C8 at the armour school in 1990 that had most of the anodizing stripped off due to someone wanting to pass inspection.

I think he failed, lol.

A yes, cleaning them during battle school. People obsessed with carbon build up on the muzzle. If it had come loose wouldn't it be a simple matter to tighten since it has already been timed? Or do you start over because that's what you were trained to do?

I for one, prefer the look of peel washers over crush washers, not sure why.

Once the peel washer's been used once you have to toss it away and re-install the compensator with a new washer.
