Need some help with this revolver, as it is not in my area of collecting.

Looked at this last night. I can get pictures up, once I register on a photo site. If anyone wants to post them now, pm me.

On the left side of barrel it is marked "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER 44-40"
\On the top of the barrel it is marked "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO HARTFORD CT. U.S.A."

On the left side of the frame below the cylinder it is marked "PAT. SEPT 19 1871. JULY 2 72. JAN 19 75".

Serial number is 329,###. Looks like the frame is case hardended but most of it is gone/dull, which i understand is normal due to age.

It came with a beautiful belt and holster that was custom and very detail patterned made for the owner. The holster is about 4-6 wide! Not my cup of tea, but you can appreciate the effort put into it.

Can anyone offer any help as to age and value.

Thanks in advance.

By memory 1915-1916! The six-shooter is a 4 3/4'' in 44-40.
If it has not been refinished it will be worth more. Does it have the same serial # on all parts, if not it's a part gun and value goes down!
In original condition it's worth quite a bit of money! (More if you have the box!);)

It should look like the top one! The stocks if original should be the same too!

It's 1914.

For a start... a gun of that period should have 3 visible serial numbers.
All visible under the gun...on the frame, the trigger guard and the backstrap. If the gun is correct they should all be the same. There is also a number on the loading gate and on the face of the cylinder. (that you must remove to see).

Also there could be a number on the inside panels of the stocks and on the frame, under the stocks (grips).

Describe the grips, or compare them to mine!

Until you can get nice pictures that's all we have for a start!

OK
