Range day with the Colt Gold Cup 1911, impressive pistol accuracy and reliability wise, 100 rounds, no failures....

All shooting from 17 yards, ammo is Wolf 230 gr FMJ...

Now that i know how well those Colt 1911 are made and perform, i am leaning toward ordering a Colt Classic 1991 A1 for the vintage side of my collection, order in... JP.

The Baer starts to shine at 25 yards and beyond. At 15 yards it's pretty easy to cloverleaf a target with just about any quality gun & decent ammo.

I've had a few Colt Gold Cups over the years. Accurate, but delicate.

Make sure the little cross pin holding in the read site doesn't work it's way out & disappear on you. ;)

I shot this with a Colt GC Trophy - NRA 10s Rapid 5 shots two times at 25m (One handed with an anatomical grip). However, I found the single stage (nonadjustable) trigger a bit variable - and so plumped for a Pardini GT6 45 with a 2 stage adjustable trigger . However, the 1911 it is pretty accurate and fun to shoot and was on a bit of a roll when I shot this...

After checking up on that pin, i report that they must have adressed this issue as it is perfectly tight ang snug after 100 rounds... JP.

Nice shooting.

Sorry to go off topic but how do you like the Pardini GT6? I almost pulled the trigger on one. Still tempted.

Rugers are bad for sight pin creep too. I let a dab of blue locktite wick into one side and never worry again.

The GT6-45 is the nuts - very classy and superb (fully adjustable) trigger and fully adjustable target sights, a class above a 1911. I put a Rink grip on mine - kicks it up another level. i had a trigger job on my GCT and it was still variable and decided I didn't want to throw any more $$ at it and went to a GT6 - I never looked back.

I think the 1911 was designed around 1902(ish) (adopted by the Army in 1911 - experts please chime in) - the design shows it's age - the Pardini is probably 10 years old or so and the mechanism is thoroughly modern, for instance the trigger group drops out intact and field stripping is delightfully smooth.

The 1911 & S&W models 42 & 52 are very skinny and a high sightbase when compared with modern (target) pistols - the GT6-45 sits well with Walter SSPs and Pardini HPs

You can easily find the Canadian dealer - search for Western Marksman - if you would like more info - please PM me.
