I noticed that the roll mark on the colt is improperly stamped on the colt “L” and the serial number starting with “CR” does not match the “LE” that it is supposed to start with from other “colt combat unit” carbines I have seen.

Are these colt combat unit carbine uppers that have been slapped on different blemished colt lowers as they appear to be?
Is that why you are calling them “enhanced patrol rifles” instead?

Seems a bit iffy

Yeah that colt stamp in the OP looks bad. Not a good sign for a $1700 gun...

Interesting, just checked and mine has the same flaw in the “L”, wonder if that’s how some dealers offer discounted rifles....

Wow, someone deleted my posts from earlier.

It’s been over a month and north sylva still hasn’t responded to this thread...
I think actions (or inaction in this case) speaks louder than words.

For what it’s worth - I have a number of Colt ARs, the Colt roll marks are different on each of them. Some are perfect, others have a flaw in the Colt name as you see in the OP or the logo. I’ve also seen a mismatch of serial numbers and in some cases components. Mr Guns and gear on YouTube has a video on one such Colt he found.

I think Colt sells ARs as shooters, and don’t really put too much thought into the roll mark clarity strength as a QC item, and probably use whatever lowers it has on hand to meet production.

Yah the serial number prefix is interesting as it's an LE6920, one would think the serial prefix would begin with LE not CR. My LE6920-R starts with LE.

I don't think Colt really cares. They have lowers around with CR markings and if the CR is not selling or there is a big order of LE, they are not going scratch out these lowers or let the money sit in the warehouse. They are going to put whatever uppers on them and sell them.

And about the roll mark , it is the same thing. Colt AR15 / M16 line is never a fit and finish division. Some of the stuff they churned out during the era of WOT was pretty ugly by commercial standard, but yeh they work.

Interesting. But I wouldn’t care. Colt production is made for guns that are to beaten up and fight in wars. The gun looks absolute perfect otherwise. I wouldn’t care unless I need one for a museum or collecting.
