Colt New Service Question

If you ever held a Colt new service, you would know how large it is compared to a Python or its predesecor the Colt 357. If you ever get the chance to buy a nice new service, you will never regret it, one of the guns I wish Colt would start making again, especially in target versions, cheers Dale Z!

Does anyone know if it's true that the Colt Python was built on the same frame as the New Service? If not, what frame was the New Service? Thanks everyone.

The New Service is built on the .45 frame size (bigger than an "N" S&W .44 frame)

The Python/Officers Model/Army Special ect. are built on the .41 frame size (S&W "L" frame size)

The Police Positive Special/Diamondback/Cobra/Agent/Viper/Detective Special are built on the .38 frame size (slightly smaller than a S&W "K" frame)

There was a .32 frame size but it's been long gone (@pre 1920s)

Post World War Two, Colt began naming their frames using a letter denomination. Pre-War, Colt just gave them a name, The New Sevice was built on the Colt Revolver Large Frame and the frame size was called Large Frame or Heavy Frame. The New Service was not continued post war. The Colt 1917, was a military version.

A Python (I-frame)is between a S&W K-frame and S&W N-frame in sizing and a New Service is larger than a S&W N-frame.

Here's a photo of my New Service alongside my Det, Spec. (D-frame)
