I have a chance to purchase a Colt Official Police with a 6” barrel in 22LR. The firearm is in good shape, I would say the bluing is at least 80%, but it does have the most inexpensive grips they came with (plastic with an emblem that is not silver). The sights are not adjustable and when I played with the action it was tight and the trigger was very, very good. I am going to fire the hand gun next week and bring a bore light to have a better look. All I had to look at the bore was the clubs bore light that has no light but gathers the light around. The firearm does not look like it has been fired often as the bore looks new and there is little wear on the cylinder.
Anyone who is familiar with these handguns could they tell me what else should I be looking? Do they have any weak spots? Does $450 sound like a fair price for the firearm?

$450 sounds alright for an OP in VG condition. The weakest part of the design is that the "hand" can wear and throw the revolver out of time. The hand is the part that contacts the cylinder to rotate it.

To check for a revolver that is out of time, slowly #### the revolver to ensure that the cylinder locks up before the hammer is completely back.

The OP design was used by Colt on many of it's target grade revolvers such as the Officer's Model Match and of course, the Python. I'd love to have a good OP in 22lr.

I believe the OP in 22 is much more rare then the same gun in 38. It is the same gun as the Officers' Match without adjustable sights. Designed as a practice gun for officers that used the same gun in 38. It is the Colt "I" frame (same as the Python) and a very good revolver. $450 for one in good shape is a good price. - dan

Would love to have the OP in .22 cal. BTW, the OP is the same frame as the Colt Python. So Python grips will fit the OP.
If the .22 OP is in VG shape, it would/should be worth C$500. to a Colt fan, however, the price you mentioned is reasonable. How about posting some pictures...

If I purchase the firearm I will post some pictures, thanks everyone for thier input.

Well I paid for the gun tonight and have to wait for the CFO to do their part. This lately around here could be over a month. I shot the firearm this weekend and with bulk Blazer I got a 5 shot group of about an inch and a half at 20 yards, from a rest, I am not that good. Bore is great and lockup is tight can’t wait to get it home then off to the range.

Well everything went through the government, I got all the required paperwork, and I picked up the firearm Sunday. It shoots way better than I can and the trigger is light and crisp in single or double action. Here is a picture of the 22 with his older brother, an antique Colt 1892 in 41 Long Colt.
