Hey,

I just picked up a Colt Police Positive and as per the data stamp on the barel the ammunition it uses is .38 I was just curious if it would also take .38 special. Sorry if this is a stupid question but this is my first revolver.

Thanks,

Sean

.38 S&w

The .38 S&W ammo is usually pricey. Reloading is probably the way to go. I have 100 casings and a set of .38 S&W lee dies with carbide sizer for $35.00 including shipping. If interested email me. jaydeee@shaw.ca.

Does it say 38 Colt or 38 S&W on the barrel? If it was chambered for the 38 Special (and some were), it will say that on there instead. 38 S&W/Colt (not exactly interchangeable, but close enough), are more difficult to find, but you can get cases from Starline brass or keep an eye out at gun shows. I've reloaded 38 S&W with 38 Special dies before, it works ok, not as good as dies specifically for the cartridge, but ok. - dan

it says "Colt Police Positive .38" and as for reloading i'm not set up for that. So i guess i'm pretty much screwed unless i find somebody to reload for me

If you're interested in case lots, I do that :) Seems the last case of .38 S&W I sold was in the $250 range, but we've just had about a 10% ammo price increase. Let me know if interested :)
