Looking for a reputable Colt Python gunsmith to do repair work on my 6"nickel Colt Python cylinder release mechanisms. preferably in eastern Canada, but anywhere in Canada would be OK also.

You don't want just anybody working on a Python. The trigger job was done in the factory by specially trained techies. Suggest you surf over to the Colt site and look for their suggested smithy. That'd be coltmfg.com. Add the W's. Mind you, Pythons aren't made any more.

Colt Python is nothing special. It is 100% clone of Swiss Army 1882 internally.
People tend to believe that no one can work on these except Colts trained technician.
It is kind of true because to smith Python you will need to work under microscope sometimes.
I haven't yet meet gunsmith who has optical equipment needed for this task. It is a trade lost in time.
But it is same as saying that no one can work on TT-33 except Russian Tula arsenal trained technician.

They are more complex then a similar S&W, more parts and a slightly more complicated mechanism. A fair bit more handfitting involved. I don't know of anyone in Canada that works on them at the moment. The lockworks of all Colt DA revolvers with leaf spring mainsprings are very similar to one another, I can comment on the Swiss revolver as I've never owned one. - dan

I had two, and two diamond backs. I always had trouble with the cylinder getting out of timde so I sold them. Has anyone else had this.

Its#the cylinder release button that wobbles when activated. As you know on a Python you pull on the button to release the cylinder, when you do that the front of the button tilts off the frame. Its like a seesaw, pull on one side the other goes up! mcfrenchie
What exactly is wrong with the cylinder release? Perhaps someone here can guide you through a repair. - dan

It seams that you are missing nylon insert on the back of the cylinder latch. That is easy enough fix. Use WEED EATER nylon cutting cord.
But it is beyond me why would Colt design something that relies on plastic part for proper function.

The early ones didn't have plastic at all, it was metal to metal fit. If it's a little loose, you can peen the flanges of the release where the ride along the groove on the inside of the side plate. Plastic can either be replaced as mentioned , of the release could be exchanged for an earlier version and then carefully handfitted. - dan
