Colt Python

? not sure what you mean. It will be easier to wring the maximum accuracy out of a longer barrel due to the longer sight radius. But each pistol will be a law unto itself. And unless you are a very good shooter, (ie can regularly group better then 1.5 inches at 25 yards) you will never tell the difference shooting them.

If you mean balance in the hand, that's personal, but most folk prefer a 5-6" barrel, as the python is a fairly heavy revolver in the longer barrel lengths.

For my money i'd rather have an M-27, but that's me. Good luck on your hunt.

Got'em both. Trouble is I "Safe queened" the suckers so I can't speak for mine! The longer barrel will give you the better sight radius and slightly higher velocity.
I am far from being a good enough shot to take advantage of the difference. An eight inch Python is quite the handful so I would favor the 6. FWIW I like the shorter barrels in revolvers. The 686 Smith "Canadians" are sweet punchers.

I have both, a Python and the Model 27 and have to say that I do prefer the Python over the Smith..........but that's just me. To be fair the Model 27 is a 5" barrel and the Python is a 6" but just like the feel and trigger of the Colt seems that much nicer.

A S&W 586 with a trigger job.........

Yes, this.....

Besides, Python's are too valuable to be shooter's now anyway! :p

NAA.

Had a 6" early, 1957 production, Python

that shot very well, as/example of a target shot off hand;) back when I was into serious paper punching.

A generous offer was made for it by a collector on site which included a NIB vintage example

and $.

And, now in the company of a close relative, a 4" .22LR cal Diamondback.

A little clearer look

My primary interest in them, is as shooters and as such:), I'm content with the deal made.

When you start shooting handguns, you will, most always, shoot better with the longer barrels with the same type of handgun. re. myself, between 6 and 8" meant no difference. The "cusp" was at 4" from 6inchers, this was the fun part. Now, 3" to 2inchers are the obstacle.
Good shooting

Although it's heresy I must say the proportions of Python have always looked a little...off to me. My favourite look is the "Smython"--a S&W frame with a Python barrel. Not sure how it'd shoot, though.
