Just wondering...today I saw the third python listing in as many days. Is it the new government or the new python copy that's doing it? Just curious. Always wanted one, still can't believe the sticker price on them.

The EE has sure been active lately, that is for sure.

Maybe fears of Rick Grimes' fellow survivors impending and concluded zombie induced doom are putting a damper on prices and owners who are hoping to capitalize on the iconic-ness or the handgun are attempting to minimize loses? But seriously, I doubt it would be because of a new copy. The value and collectability of an original anything should be unaffected, regardless of how many knockoffs there are, in fact it may even be worth more. Its probably a mixture of post election blues and sheer luck that you would see so many up for sale. But hey, buyers market, am I right?

Epps just sold a stainless for 2500.00 with box. Granted the blued are the beauties IMHO.

Stainless up on facebook right now asking 3850. I have to agree, the blued ones are the most striking IMHO. They sure have an appeal either way, I'll say that. Not $3850 appeal, but appeal.

It's neither, there's a few new ads every week or two on the EE. I haven't noticed an uptick in activity in the EE since the election.

To my way of thinking, a stainless Python is less desirable than a nickel plated one. A nickel plated Python would hurt your eyes if you looked at it on a sunny day. Frankly, in "as new" condition, one of these guns would be worth $3000 to lots of people, regardless of finish, but $3850 is being greedy, unless there is something extraordinary about that particular example.

I've never even held a python, it's one of those bucket list things. Sure would like a real one, but definitely am intrigued enough to at least try out one of the copies (if they ever see the light of day), but a real blue python.....I'll be in my bunk.

Let me get this straight. BSS Python's have been listed this past year for over $4000.00 and there is a blue version listed for $4900.00 and the one listed for $3850 you jump all over. Check what they go for on the other webb sites.

Alright, again IMHO a blued Python is where its at for me. Mine are all blued. The look is in a league of it's own. Bright stainless and nickeled
pieces are second in line (My SAA nick finish is cherry). For collection purposes I do get the appeal of a "Colt guard" finish, however the prep involved
to put out a blued version is well documented on the various online sites. Aesthetically I don't care for a matte stainless Python look, but I understand where
Colt was at when these finishes were introduced. As far as price, its the old "How badly do you want it?"

Why even bother with a Python ; just buy a Ruger GP100 , or a S/W 686 , and call it a day....the Ruger and S/W can do everything a Python can.....

You will understand when you handle / shoot one. I had a gp 100 , then bought a Python. I paid 2300 for a blue one. It was not in perfect condition either. Every day I'm happy that I did. It's the smoothest, most ###y revolver I've had the pleasure of owning. And it is one I don't think il ever sell. To me.. the price was justifiable. It's easy these days to pay 1200-1500 for something of a very lesser quality.

You're not missing much. Waaaay to much hype. I remember when they sold for $600 I bought a 586 and a 29 instead. Had a lot of cash back then, no wife:p however in retrospect should of bought a dozen back them, along with the $199 granands, would of cleaned up today.

As johnl said, you ain't missing much. The allure of the Python is that it isn't made anymore. It was built in a time when quality meant everything. And the Royal Blue finish! Wow! Unfortunately, that was it as far as I'm concerned.
I could not wait to shoot a Python back in the 80s. Their reputation for their trigger was already legendary back then so when I finally got to try one, I was honestly disappointed. The double action was a heavy stacking pull. Very different feel compared to a S&W. The SA pull, however, was magnificent. Having subsequently shot the King Cobra and Anaconda, I realized that was how Colt triggers were meant to be.
Unless you have a serious hard on for a Python, a 5/686 or Ruger would be just as good.

Hmm, good to know. I have a 7-shot 686 talo in .357, I was actually in the store the other day chatting about a trade for a blued 586. But I do believe it was the look of the python that set my preference for blue over stainless...
