Hello good people,

On the gun sites I've been looking at I don't see many colt pythons for sale. Are they very difficult to come by?

They're not impossible to find, but once you get one you'll discover why people tend hang on to them.

They pop up pretty reguar in the EE forum.

Usually priced around almost twice what a good used S&W 586 goes for.

But the Python is the Cadillac of the .357 world [if you happen to like Cadillacs that is...] :p

Pythons have a certain appeal which IMHO is mostly cosmetic, especially in the 2.5 or 4" barrels. The 6" barrels used to be quite accurate and they were perfect for 148 gr. HBWC bullets, but the action stacks as you get near the end of the DA pull. Try to find someone who will do an action job on the Python action can be very difficult if not impossible as most of the good tuners are dead or retired (Ted Telford, Reeves Jungkind, Fred Sakowski).

As NAA said, I think a good S&W is a better gun at almost half the price and lots of people know how to improve a S&W action, but they just get better the more you shoot them!

Sunbedfred, contact Pat at Target-Sports.com (905)888-8288.
I saw a nice Colt Python in his display case the other day.

Good luck!

Many thanks for that matey, but I'm not in the market for one just yet. Just planning ahead!

Pythons will be getting harder to find, as they are now being horded by collectors (like me). Watch the exchange here, I have seen them range from $850 to $1150. I was fortunate in recently finding the Python that I wanted (OEM bright nickel plate, 6 in. bbl, Colt wooden grips, for $900). I must get this snake to the range to do a back to back with my 586.
