Looking for advice on this gun for sale. It has a wilson barrel and comp, aimpoint dot and mount, pachmyer grips, 15 mags and the guys is asking $1000 dollars. He also has some brass, bullets, etc. Is this gun any good and is that a fair price? I might consider it just for some fun times at the range and a run at IPSC open just for fun to see if I like it. Seems like a good deal but I really have no clue. I'm a rookie! :)

It ain't cheap if the gun is all shot out. ..Ask him how many rounds through it & have someone who knows 1911 pistols inspect it for wear. There might be a very good reason he is selling it "cheap"...

that is a good deal. 15 mags! even the cheap mags are $40 a peice. I got mine (colt series 80) w/5 mags and a few other things for $800. I got a super deal, and it is a solid gun. check the bore, (lock the action open, hold it up to the light and look down the barrel) it should be clean and (if you're lucky) shiny. the grooves on a pistol are not as deep as a rifle, but they should have squared edges (not rounded off). rack the action, it's hard to explan to someone, but the springs should not feel "soggy" or weak. they should have a crisp "spring" (parden the pun) to them. if you can't have someone who "knows" look at it for you, you're gonna have to make the call.... you can't go wrong with a colt series 80. just remember what else is out there for $1000 bux. Sigs, Kimber, Glock, just to name a few. make sure you want to spend your money on a colt, if you do, jump on that deal. you can even sell some mags to recupe the cost if you like.
just my opinion....

Cheers,

+1

Based on it being a 45ACP Series 80 and the Wilson barrel & comp (Wilson don't do parts for THOSE guns no more) - it was probably "built" a long time ago.

Find out who built it too...A pistolsmith or home made - you may be buying someone elses' headache or it could be a good deal.
