Having been out of the handgun game for the last 20 years (I used to shoot a 1911 and a 92 back then) I found myself gun-less when my nephew asked me to teach him how to shoot a pistol.

In my search for a suitable firearm to instruct a 12 year old with, I found myself being drawn back to the 1911 design. While searching the web for a 9mm offering, I was pleased to learn of the .22LR options from various manufacturers available in today's Canadian market.

After some research and several youtube reviews, I rolled the dice on a Colt Gold Cup Trophy .22LR pistol from Tenda ($399) and 1000 rounds of CCI 40 gr mini mags (round nose). These guns are made for Colt by Walther. I also scored some extra mags and magpul grips from another vendor (I did not like the wraparound grips the pistol came with).

Well I am happy to report the little .22 exceeded my expectations and shot very well. My nephew did well on his first day and had alot of fun. We fired 200 rounds and only experienced one stoppage (FTF). It happened to my nephew and I am positive that he rode the slide, causing the misfeed. Below are my best targets from that day at 25 and 50 yards (isosceles stance).

This thing is a keeper and as a bonus, it's cheap to feed!
