I picked up a Colt Woodsman Match Target through an Estate sale. The firearm was in very nice condition except for some rust spots at the end of the barrel where it was stored improperly in a cheap steel gun locker. Is this handgun worth reblueing for the purpose of reselling it, or am I better off selling it as is? What would it be worth in less than pristine condition? (ballpark) Does not have the original box or papers, unsure of round count but the bluing is 99% except for the rust spots. Any input would be appreciated.

Judging by the serial numbers it is a Gen 3 made in 1974. I will try to figure out how to post some pics on here. I'd keep it but I'm not into the .22's and have 2 others I've picked up as well, a Ruger I and an H&R Ultra Sidekick. - Mark

"...some rust spots..." Those serious rust(pitting?) or just wee bits of surface rust? Surface rust comes off with 0000 steel wool and oil. Rebluing it will cost you a pile of money you will not get back when/if you sell it. The other two have far less value as used firearms. Won't ever be collector pieces either. The Colt will be.

I've posted this info previously, but via an estate sale and as they all were in excellant condition, I picked up four decent quality .22 target pistols,

one of which is a 4 1/2" heavy barrel Colt Match Target and like yours, a 3rd series/gen.

While the values stated in the Blue Book may not be applicable in all areas north and south of the border, they can be viewed as a starting point. $1,250.oo for 100% - $325.oo for something I call very rough at 50%. In my opinion, your Match Target is probably worth having a professional clean-up job.

Agree with Johnn, the 3rd series is not as valuable as 1 & 2. If the grips are fine let a pro clean it. What length is the barrel? Value probably around $500 without good pictures.
