Good Day Fellas,
I am new here and have already found some interesting threads/information to read through. Thanks. But to be more specific, I would like to ask two questions about the following. A tac team that I am on recently did a bit of shooting under the following conditions.

- Colt Diemaco C8/M4 5.56
- 14.5 inch slim barrel profile
- troy industry rails but not free-floated
- 1 in 7 twist
- 223 Remington 55gr fmj ammo
- 100m prone (mag on ground support) or rather snow :)
- Using iron sights A.R.M.S Buis
- shooting through an Eotech (turned off)
- 10 shot groups

1. What would be a good group acheived by a good prescision shooter under these circumstances?

2. What would be a good group by a good combat shooter?

I am just trying to assess an average for training purposes.

Thanks in advance for your input. Please feel free to include your own groups if you think it would be helpful. :)

Depends on the ammo for the most part,, I would expect groups in the size of 4-5 inches. Anything under 2 inches and buddy has a sweet shooting rig.
I'm biased, so I would expect all my shooters to shoot the same group size, which would be the best the equipment would allow (I wouldn't group them as combat shooters, precision shooters).

Body armour no plates, jackets, gloves, ballistic eyewear not goggles. light snow fall.

Shelldrake, the average groups were around 5-7 inches i think. A few had 7-10 inch groups because of limited iron sight usage.

I was curious about what this setup could achieve.

I did not group them as precision/combat, but rather wondered what a shooter who goes for precision only, would achieve with such a setup.

The ammo as stated is Rem 55gr fmj. Decent training ammo, but certainly no where near match grade.

A few for sure, but to be fair, this was only the second time using the irons for most of the shooters. We run the Eotech almost exclusively. The female officer who had a large group w irons, had just under a 2 inch group with the Eotech dialed down. That is damn good for a fairly new rifle shooter.

Also, our operation ammo is heavier and excellent btw

Under real world conditions, and with that ammo and equipment, that is ok (5-7 inches),, I would like to see an inch or so off it though.
With a better aiming mark, you should be able to get that inch or so less.
I would want to have a closer look at the guys who were getting 7-10 inch groups. It could be equipment, or it could be they need work on their fundamentals, but they should all be able to get consistent 10 round groups under 5 inches or so.
My 0.02 cts,,

Thanks shelldrake, that is worth much more than 2 cents.

The large groups were more of an anomaly. As that female squeezed the group to under 2 inches w the HWS. No fundamentals issues there.

The ex military guys were all under 5 for sure.
