Combination gun - base model deer caliber?

Just wondering if there is an affordable "base model" combination gun (O/U) in a deer+ capable caliber? I would hope it would be 12ga X_____, though I guess 20 ga is common in these guns too.

I've been looking around but generally they're either $900-$2000 or are chambered in a little .22 cal.

They are all rather pricey. Baikal makes a less expensive one...the other route is to find a used savage 24. I sold one on the EE a few months ago, for about 700$ I think....30-30/20g. You'll find that the cheaper combo guns are rather heavy/clunky. I order to get a nicely finished, good pointing gun, most people have to shell out the $$.

These Brno 802's are nice. I would assume they'd run you a good chunk of change though.

Get an inexpensive over & under 12 gauge Baikal, mount irons designed to attach to a rib (there are magnetic ones easily available) and shoot slugs out of the top barrel. Problem solved.

Baikal are good and you could try Trade EX(Supporting dealer above with icon) as they have a few different models and Epps might have some too. I have a baikal in 12/3006 and use it lots. It is heavy when you add a scope to it but it does its job.

I went with the Brno ZH-304. It's chambered in 7x57R/12ga., plus I have a set of 12ga. OU barrels with it as well. Couldn't tell you what the going rate for them is but there are a few 'floating' around. In addition to 7x57R/12ga., there a number of barrel combinations available.

for deer, the most common that I have seen is the 30-30/20 ga. Seems the savage 24 in this combo pops up on the EE fairly often. keep your eyes open and I think you will find one for a bit over $500.
Remember that with any over/under you pay the big money for a beautifully crafted gun that locks up tight and has roughly the same POI from each barrel

Tradex sells them for $300-$500 but they are mostly chambered in european calibers which is fine if you reload but some of that ammo isnt too common in local gun shops

Any of the OLder BRNO 300 series in larger calibres,6.5 to 7mm mauser ussually run just under a grand, Tradex gets them once in a while as well as Epps. If you hunt deer and in the brushier country, then any of the BRNO 200 or 300 sries in 22higpower/12ga would work well, and they are all under $500 at TRadex. The nice thing about the old BRNO's is you can still buy a factory scope mount threw your CZ dealers, they are the same for these old models as well as the newer, 800 series. I have 2 BRNO combo's and while not that pretty, they are built like a tank and shoot better than most can hold them on target!cheers Dale Z

I imported a Baikal in 6.5 swedish under 12 gauge before they were available in Canada. It is perfect, because I reload some really light 85 grain bullets for rabbit sized animals, a regular varmint load with 85 grain bullets for beaver/coyote sized animals, and regular hunting loads for deer sized animals. The barrels are well regulated, so when deer hunting I often will have a slug in the shotty barrel for a second animal should the opportunity arise. Very happy with this setup.

I have bought 3 receivers and 6 barrels for the BRNO 300 series as a replacement for the baikal, but have not put enough time in at the range to comment on its accuracy, but it is lighter and shoulders better than the Baikal.

FWIW, I have had over a dozen Savage 24s in various configurations, and have not found one with barrel regulation good enough to rely on; I did have a really nice setup on a 24v with pivot mounts; shot the rifle barrel with the scope, and pivoted the scope away to use the irons with the shotgun. That system worked quite well.
