Combo precision/moose gun

I'm going on a moose hunt this fall, and while I'm sure I'll have fun, I'm there more for the walk in the bush. I do love target shooting, and I'd like to get a gun that I can target shoot with after or between seasons, so I'm leaning to .308. I like the look of the Rem 700LTR, but can anyone suggest other options? Short and fat barrels appeal to me, and being light is nice for carrying.

Sounds like a 20 incher would do the trick for you.Still shoots pretty good AND a little lighter than a 24-26 incher.

Don't rule out the Savage 10 FPLE with a 20 inch tube.

I say this only as another option being the Remington Man that I am.
