Comments on the Ruger Air Hawk?

Considering buying a Ruger Air Hawk for small game hunting and pinking. (The 490 FPS variant)
I hear the scope is hit and miss (pun intended) but plan on taking off both the scope and mount and replacing them with higher quality components.
Any comments/experiences/input much appreciated :)

I bought my son a Ruger Black Hawk (the 1000fps model) for Christmas. The scope self destructed by about March. We are having a hard time getting consistant accuracy with this rifle. I purchased a couple of sample packs of pellets from D & G Airguns and some do shoot more accurately than others but I am not happy with it (yet I hope). That being said my son did knock a crow out of a tree at 50 yards on his first try. Unfortunately he has not been able to duplicate that since. The open sights are poor as the rear sight notch is way too large for accuracy.

Thanks, I'm leaning more towards something by Hammerli or the Daisy 953 now. To be honest I just liked the Ruger because I'm a bit of a Ruger fanboy, I now realize its just a chinese rifle with the Ruger name stuck on it.
 
I bought it from Lebaron about 3 weeks ago. The scope is just crap! It keep loosing and even I spend an extra 20 bucks for a air gun scope base, it is still hard to zero in. So, I take off the scope and just use the fibre optic sight and suprisingly, it is ok. I'm new to air-rifle and after watching some video on how to hold an air rifle, the accuracy of this gun is not bad. Trigger is good too and in this price range, it's a good choice IMO.
