Ive got a century barreled action sporter on a Santa Barbara comercial 98 in a B&C stock in 7x57. Its pretty sweet too.
 
Nice BRNOs there! I'll take one of those any day over any of the others mentioned so far.

There's lots of 7x57 sporters out there in various Mauser actions. Why sell yourself short with Rem 700 push feed, busting extractors, etc? I still think the traditional Mauser safety is one of the better ones for carry with a round chambered.

If that is the 700 I swapped you, it is a DM model, not a classic IIRC.........and man, can it shoot!

I have a South African friend that swears by 7x57mm. Of course, due to history over there (Boer war) the 7x57 got a very good reputation as a military round and a sporter round since a lot of SA's hunted it as well. Its generally used for anything except as defense against dangerous game. Heck, they even use it on Lion and Leopard when there is not a charging situation. He also says the conditions are very harsh over there (dust, wind, dangerous animals on the prowl) and that the original Mauser action is the most proven.

I was offered a beautiful 7x57 sporter from a South African here at Gunnutz a while back. Since I live in Southern Ontario, I've decided to build myself a 6.5x55mm instead with our retarded .275 cal restrictions. 7x57 fall right on the line - legal if you call it .275 Rigby (one of its pseudonyms), but the bullet diameter is .283".

But .270 Winchester is apparently OK and the bullet diameter is .277"

Maybe we should all stamp our 7x57 Mausers .275 Rigby if we are getting nice sporters built...
 
I had this one, a Brno 600 with the built in peep sight. I was going to do a full custom job on this rifle similar to my 602, but a pal of mine was looking for a rifle for his kid so in a moment of weakness I sold it to him - with bullets brass and dies. Using the peep sight, now a ghost ring, that kid has made some shots I would be hard pressed to make with a scoped rifle. I guess it found a good home, and really, only complicated my inventory anyway.

 
By the way, I just got written confirmation from the Ontario MNR that 7x57mm is ALLOWED in the areas that fall under the .275 cal or less rule.
