Commercial Lead Free 7.62x39?

Have not see it in Canada. Would be real easy for a friend of yours who loads to take some milsurp and pull the bullets and seat a hunting bullet.

Soft point hunting ammo should be readily available. It is similar to 30-30 in power, so should do the job for you on deer.

I wouldn't worry about the lead content as its not a concern nor contamination. The problem with solid bullets like Barns is that they only open in their "Ideal" velocities. 7.62x39 is only a medium fast bullet and drops its speed and energy rather quickly. You might find that it does more clean through shots than what your hoping for.

If you compare X39 to a 30-30, you have to remember that most people shoot 170gr and not 125gr similar to the X39. 125gr is a very light bullet when not going so fast. However you can hand load x39 to heavier and faster bullets to some extent.

There have been studies showing that lead particles can travel up to 2 feet away from the primary bullet path in flesh. If you're feeding meat killed with lead bullets to children, it can be a legitimate concern as there's no scientifically proven safe exposure limit for lead in children.

I suppose anything is possible, but I'm from the north where all meat was killed with a rifle or shotgun. Almost 50 years worth eating shot meat, I have no traces of lead nor ill effects. I don't subscribe to this theory in any way shape or form, nor could I repeat it to someone with a straight face.

Looking through the Federal's Fusion website, looks like they are making them. You may possibly find some of these at Cabela's or WSS???
