Fellows,
I've purchased a very good condition commercial M96 sporter in 6.5x55 and am getting it set up as my coyote/wolf rifle. As such I'm wanting very good accuracy. The rifle is in very good + condition, with only a few safe kisses on one side making it less than totally mint. I've noticed that the barrel (23 1/2", medium heavy, no taper) is off to one side in the barrel channel on the stock and I've got about 3mm spare on the other side. I can slide a piece of paper up to the action, but it is tight. If I grasp the barrel with my fingers up and thumb down I can wiggle the barrel back and forth and it is willing to center (paper now slides easily to action), but goes back as soon as I take the pressure off. If I loosen the screw in front of the mag housing the sideways pressure is less, but it is still there. Also the screw needs to be very loose, almost falling off. I also want to bed the action on this rifle, and coat with ArmaClear before I take in out and hit it with the weather. Oh, the inside of the stock is not finished at all - raw wood eager to soak up water or G96 or whatever, another reason I want to Armacoat it. So, I've got two questions
1 - Can I do something to get the barrel straight in the existing barrel channel (preferred), or do I have to widen the channel to allow the barrel to free float?
2 - Do I glass bed and then Armacoat the stock, or Armacoat and then glass bed?
Thanks fellows!
