Anyone know what I have here? This just showed up today, thought I'd offer it a home...big of me I know...

Adjustable rear sight
Mag cutoff slot
Parkerrifled PH .22 barrel insert
Proofed 22LR
Matching bolt, barrel and receiver
Australia marked on bottom of buttstock
No No 1 Mk III or similar markings...??
BSA crossed rifle stamp on knox
No spring and plunger under nose cap, nose cap fits extremely precisely, no slop(hard to install) which probably means the spring and plunger aren't needed?
Rear sight has been renumbered several times, non matching.
Two threaded holes on the left side of the receiver near the safety as shown.
Extremely nice shape!

Anyone know anything about this rifle?
Commercial BSA converted by Parker Hale??

commercial conversions go back to before world war I... I remember seeing ads for long lee conversions from the same era as the War Office trainers were being used for private marksmanship.

The War Office rifles went for 45 shillings. and the conversions were like 85 s.

A couple of years back I sold a No. 1 Mk III* (Enfield, I believe) that had been converted and marked Parkerifled on the muzzle, but it had no military markings to indicate the conversion was official. It looks like you have a nice commercially manufactured No. 1 Mk III* that was also commercially sleeved. Is that an Austrailian star on the unit marking disc? That and the "Austrailia" marked on the bottom of the butt would make me think that someone has changed the wood at some point as well, as I doubt a commercial BSA rifle would have those markings. Still, a very pretty rifle and probably a great shooter.

Commerical SMLE by BSA converted by Alfred G Parker.....see stamping on the muzzle. You could have your rifle converted to small bore right up until the 70's according to their catlogs. Rifle should have a British stock not Austrailian......probably been changed over the years. Similarly with the rear sight.....has sight been recalibrated to the 22 calibre? Good example of a 22 conversion. Cheers, Ron

Noticed the two holes in the left side of the body. These were to mount a stamped steel aperture sight. International sold a batch of SMLE 22s identical to this in the late 1970s.
