Was just going through the Carbine Handbook by Paul Wahl and saw something interesting in Chapter 10, 'Buying An M1 Carbine' where he says the PMC M1 Carbine was actually superior to the Government contract carbines.

Does anyone own one of these or has anyone ever seen one? Just curious is all..........

PMC is Plainfield Machine Corp. Lot's of those around. Some would take exception to the statement that they were superior to USGI carbines. I have worked on a few, and found the receivers to be well below MIL SPEC Rockwell hardness, ie too soft.

I own 2 early PMC m1 carbines they are the ONLY commercial M1 carbines I trust mine have GI parts except barrel and receiver. I have not noticed any receiver problems and have probably 6K rounds thru one

personally id take a late war or rebuilt (with all the upgrades) USGI carbine over any aftermarket one as a shooter
