In regards to the Generation 4 models

To my understanding (please correct me if I'm wrong) the Gen 4 has inherent changes in response to some of the common modifications users were making to the previous Gen 3s.

With that being said what are the common modifications (if any) people are making to the Gen 4s and how are they different then the ones they did on the Gen 3s.

From the little research I've done, it looks like there are 3 'upgrades':

Recoil springs are 'supposed' to be better on Gen4's.
The dual springs provide longer interval changes and better recoil absorption (i.e. less felt recoil.)

The Grip can now accommodate those with larger hands (no backstrap at all is 'SF' sizing on the large frames / Gen3 size on the smaller frames).

The Mag release is larger and can be swapped over; ambidextrous?

That's it. I like the look a lot :) ...patiently waiting for the Glock20 Gen4's to appear, but will soon have a couple Gen4's to hold me over until then.

From personal experience, the Glock Gen4 with no backstrap is considerably smaller than a Gen3 gun. I have a short trigger reach, the Gen3 guns require me to H grip the pistol, the Gen4 with no backstrap allows a proper hold, and as an added bonus also allows me to use the mag release without changing grip. As a result my next pistol will be a Gen4 Glock, as soon as things smooth out. As with all pistols, you should shoot a few (thousand) rounds before deciding what you may or may not need to do to make it work better for you. The only thing I'd do immediately is get some decent sights (the Glock night sights are OK, but the standard plastic ones suck) and plug that fricking whole in the bottom of the grip (commonly reffered to as getting a butt plug). Other than that you need mags and ammo - lots of ammo.

I would disagree "the glock feels much different and the backstraps change the length of pull better on the glock"

Let me re-word my previous post. S&W came out with the M&P with changeable palmswells. The Glock decided to add changeable backstraps to their guns and called it a Gen 4 (with a few internal changes).

As for changes, I replaced the stock plastic sights with Warren Sevigny competition sights and I put a 3.5 lb LWD connector and a Gen 3 trigger bar to get rid of the bump on the Gen 4 one.

When they become available, I will change the mag release to the Glock "FBI" slightly extended mag release for Gen 4's.
