I am looking to get into both of these and would like to eliminate redundancy. Am I off my rocker?

I've got an AR15, norinco 9mm 1911 (and bladetech holster), shadow 2, rem 870, and derya mk12 at this point.

Should I just accept the fact that I would need 2 different setups to run these sports?

From reading forum posts, I see "the one" holster is fairly highly recommended.

Any must-haves?

Opinions on chest rigs vs belt only?

I am sure this comes up quite often, so thanks in advance.

See this thread for an idea of people's set-ups:

You could just use one belt and attach rifle mag holders and shotshell caddies on when you need them for 3-gun but that gets tiring pretty quickly. A lot of people will have 2 belts, 1 for IPSC and 1 for 3-gun. Chest rig for rifle mags is generally slower for most people than rifle mags on the belt but may be fine for shotshell caddies - in Canada with 10 round magazines, you might start running out of real estate on your belt depending on your girth.

I run one rig and only slightly modify the DAA belt when I switch between the disciplines.

Shadow 2
DAA Racemaster holster
DAA belt
3x pistol mag pouces for 3gun, add a 4th for IPSC
1x magnet for multipurpose pistol mag or rifle mag option
chest/belly belt with shotgun caddies

Used to run one DAA belt for both with my shotshell caddies and rifle mags on tekloks and it worked good because I could choose between my production belt or my classic belt and with only removing one pistol mag pouch from either. The pros are the stiffness of the DAA belt and cost effective. The cons you have everything on you all day unless belt is removed. Now I have a Safariland els belt for three gun and it's nice because you can take gear off and on quickly or rearrange it to each stage or each sport to comply with rules, the cons are the SL belt isn't as stiff as the DAA style belts and the peg and hole setup can be a pain to get on depending on where you position the the closure.

Just buy 2 separate setups, you'll end up doing it eventually.

Would make life way easier, just grab the belt for each sport and go. No switching back and forth and adding pouches etc. Especially once you start dry firing for each sport, then it will be super annoying.

I recommend using the Safariland ELS. Besides being great quality you can put the receiver plates wherever you want and then shift the gear around with a simple click and move. I would still recommend two belts as most IPSC divisions do not allow "equipment" forward of your hips and some would argue that the receiver plates are equipment even though they have no function without the attachments. With two belts you would still be able to use the attachments and move them around easily (mag carriers, etc...) you just need a few extra receiver plates.
