Comp-Tac Pro Competition Kit - Belt, Holster, Mag Pouch

Anyone use this set up?

I have a Glock 17 and am thinking of getting into IPSC/IDPA shooting.

I have no gear so the idea of a complete package is appealing.

holsters and mag pouch are interchangeable quality/recomendation wise with bladetech

belt im not sure... id prob go with a wilderness belt instead

Competition rig

I have Bladetech Kydex holsters for all of my guns and a CR Speed universal that I can use with 3 out of four.

I shoot in IPSC , IDPA and Steel Challenge and sometimes use what ever is most convenient for me as I don't stay with one gun.

To me, the belt choice is a no brainer. I would go with the CR Speed two piece system that many or most competitor's use. They are very stiff and will accept whatever you want or need to hang on it. I have a Wilderness belt but it is not stiff enough and gives under the weight of all the gear.

CompTac is an excellent company with very good products and service. I use two different calibre models of their BeltFeed ammo pouch setups. These are just super in my opinion as you can get more mags in a limited area on your belt and still access them quickly. If you are interested in IPSC mag pouches are a key item. You will want to have five with four being the minimum. Definitely five if you use an 8 round capacity gun.

While expensive, the CR Speed and similar Ghost holsters are what most people use. Mine has the advantage of being adjustable for several of my guns. It is also easy on the gun's finish.

If this holster is beyond budget, I would start with the CR Speed Belt, the Beltfeed , plus one single pouch from Comptac and either their Kydex holster or Bladetech's.

cant use the double belt system in IDPA and the wilderness competition model with the plastic inserts is what gets recommended by everyone for a single belt system. do you just end up using half your cr system for idpa?

I ordered the kit without the belt (using a 5.11 leather belt).

I like it a lot. I've used race holsters and Blade Tech stuff, I was quite impressed with the Comp-tac gear. I use it for IDPA with a 5.11 holster belt and IPSC with a CR belt. The paddle looks a little silly with the CR double belt, but it works!

The only complaint is that the tension screws on the mag pouch are sharp, they gouged the leather of my 5.11 belt.

I have seen people use 1/2 the CR belt for IDPA but with all the velcro exposed, the CR belt can catch or become dirty. A sticky SO could also declare it 'competition only' gear and issue a penalty.

I don't shoot IDPA regularly but have to change the configuration of my Bladetech holster when I do to eliminate the offset. The outer CR Speed belt works OK on its own. I have a good leather belt as well. My Wilderness belt doesn't have inserts which explains why it feels too soft to me. I think I have the "instructors" model. My IDPA experience has been limited to club events here in Texas where they make allowances for me as two of my guns are ''illegal" and the other has an RDS mounted which would have to be removed. My X-Five is too heavy and my 1911 has a cone barrel. I assume that my FNP-45 would be OK without the RDS. IPSC is my main interest and Steel Challenge is pretty tolerant of equipment at least at the level at which I play.

As regards CompTac and Bladetech I have found both companies excellent to deal with. Both also have a very good range of choices. I like the Bladetech holsters as I have purchased several of their mounting systems and hangers. Most of the time I use the TekLoc attachments but the others can be useful too.
