Hey, I've been fondling my Commander pretty well every day since I got it :D I'm looking at it now and wondering about getting another one and how fantastic I could make it.

First off... I was thinking it would be great to have a 1911 with a 3" bbl but since that's an impossibility perhaps I could pretend!

Where can a guy get the SLIDES for compact 1911s? I'm thinkin' I could run a short slide over my 4.2" bbl and use the extra bbl for accessories.

Also, most of the compact 1911s boast a height of around 4.75" 90deg to the bbl. I think Mine is at about 5"->5.5" depending on where they are measuring from. Obviously they have shortened the frame but most claim to have the shorter frame with a 7rnd capacity.

Anyway, please tell em everything you know about compact 1911s. Apparently I'm not in a position to ask any key questions but hopefully a little discussion will knock some loose.

Cheers,
Wally

I think Ed Brown used to make a gun with an Officer's frame and a Commander slide, that's about as close as you'll find. Can't see the point myself - if I remember correctly the Ed Brown guns were about $2300 US in the early nineties and I strongly doubt there are any in Canada. Ed Brown doesn't list them any more, which isn't a huge loss as they no longer ship to us.

star PD look like a 1911, it is pretty small 45acp
