Debating a few models of compact scopes for both a 375H&H and as well for a lighter 270 intended for close range deer. Looking for firsthand experience with any of these optics. I am not asking about Vortex, Tasco, Nikon, King, Scorpion, or other crappy scope. Here's my list.

- Swarovski Habicht, 1.25-5X20, 4A
- Swarovski Z4I 1.25-4X30, Circle Dot
- Steiner Ranger, 1-4X24, 4AI

I have owned and appreciated a Leupold VXIII, 1-5X20. I am now leaning towards the Swaros as I own several and love them all. I have owned a couple Steiners - amazing clarity but I found them to make my rifles rather top-heavy. Not sure if I am sold on the illuminated reticles since I see a standard reticle very well, even as legal shooting light starts to dwindle. This has me leaning towards the older Habicht, but, I am still intrigued by the concept of an illuminated reticle.

Hoping to hear from hunters that have real time with any of the aforementioned optics.

Cheers.

Africahunting forums have some good threads on the compact scopes, I believe quite a few talk about the swarovski , not sure if it is those specific ones.

i always preferred sb and zeiss to swa up to the z6 that came up. 4a is a very good way to gather light not only the lens. cannot comment on steiner.

There all good and I would like to add, I was super impressed with the Steiner’s clarity as well..
