I am looking for a reasonable quality scope and am considering the new Nikon Monarch III 4-16 x 44mm with Side Focus and Mildot reticle. Nikon also offers Target Turrets for it.

It will initially be going on a 22LR and possibly other small calibre rifles. (hence the 44mm and SF for shorter distances)

This scope is $500, anything else in this spec/price range worth looking at?

Bushnell 4200? Or new bushnell elite? which I believe is very similar to 4200, which I think is being discontinued, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

I looked at the Bushnell Elite 5-15x40 Tactical, and it appears to be a renamed 3200, and priced around $470

There is a 4200 4-16x40 AO that seems to be in the ballpark, a bit cheaper but an inch longer than the Nikon

The 6500 series is getting to be more than I want to spend, and they are also getting to be larger/longer scopes.

Anyone compared the Nikon with the 4200 series?

There is another thread similar to this right now, so it seems the 3200 and 4200 are both being discontinued and being replaced with the 'Elite', which is similar to the 4200, maybe with some upgrades. For what it's worth have checked out both the monarch and 4200 in a 3-9 power and I would say the nikon was a bit more sharp
