How are some of our CGN Milsurp collectors finding the condition of a U.S. rifle bore..ie.. 1903, Model 1917 or Garand...vs British Commonwealth rifles..ie SMLE..P14 or No.4.
U.S used corrosive primers in the .30 cal ammo..but so did the UK..if a barrel was not cleaned out with boiling water and a pull through with some oil on, run through..the bore soon became pitted..i found both my M1 Garand and 03a3 rifle had a somewhat pitted barrel's...but most of my Brit Commonwealth rifles, though the bore may be dark, there seemed to be very little pitting., Canadian No.4's had the best barrels..but our ammo had non corrosive primers...i am wondering if the U.S forces were more relaxed when it came to cleaning their rifle bores.....just curious..looking forward to your observations.
