Funny thing is the best shots and most avid hunters I've ever met usually have more guns than they could shoot. The one gun guys tend to be the box of shells a year type. Filling freezers isn't particularily hard.
I don't know any avid shooter that just owns one rifle. Like you, most of the "one rifle" guys aren't that into shooting, and only shoot a few rounds a year to check zero while using a very poor rest and then fiddle with scope, chasing bullet holes all over the paper. Eventually they mumble something like "good enough for deer hunting" and pack up and leave.
