The lock bar type is an older sight. Literally has a wee bar that locks the sight adjustment knobs in place. Later changed(adopted in 1947) to simplify manufacturing.
Buy a copy of Hatcher's Notebook and Hatcher's Book of the Garand. About $30 each at your local gun shop or Amazon. Lots of history of the developement of the rifle and the ammo in the former. More history(ammo chapter is a bit better) and a trouble shooting chapter in the latter. Both are worth every cent. Hatcher's Notebook should be required reading for any shooter.
