I am looking for a blackpowder rifle.
Specifically a civil war type 58 cal, I haven't decided which model yet

I am seeking the guidance of my fellow CGN as far as who makes the best to the worst in reproductions.

I believe that Davide Pedersoli is at the top of the list but they only do a 1861 Springfield.

Where does Armi Sport fit in? Navy Arms? etc. Who else?

I am under the impression that many of the Italian gunmakers make and market their products under various trade names and even make parts and pieces for each other?

Help....

Pedersoli makes nice firearms. If you are looking for an Enfield look for a used Parker Hale. Euro Arms has a good reputation. IIRC, because I suffer from CRS, Euro Arms makes firearms for Navy Arms. It comes down to which model of firearm you want.

From a quality standpoint, nothing will come close to the Shiloh Sharps model of 1863, a forerunner of the cartridge Sharps, made in Montana, I think we should support the "one free State". Buy Montana!!!! The only State with balls!!

Not to be disrespectful, but back to my question...
I am trying my best to make an informed decision and appreciate the help greatly!

major519,

It would help if you were more specific as to the model of firearm you want. Euroarms makes a nice copy of the 1853 Enfield, Whitworth & Volunteer rifles. Armi San Paolo was an earlier name for Euroarms. Antonio Zoli made Civil War repos in the past but now make only shotguns and double rifles. Armi Sport, which tend to be the least expensive, make a raft of repro muskets: 1842 U.S. Percussion Musket, 1842 Rifled Musket, 1861 Springfield Musket, US Model 1855 Percussion Rifle, 1863 Springfield Musket 1862 C.S. Richmond musket, 1853 3-Band Enfield Musket, 1858 2-Band Enfield Musket, Remington Model 1863 Zouave, Remington Model Zouave Musketoon, US short rifles musket model 1842. It all depends on what you want and how much money you want to spend.

I have narrowed my choices down to the 1862 Richmond, 1855 US model or the 1861 Springfield.

I had a 2 band naval carbine Enfield in the past, it was a Parker Hale and was of supurb quality.

I don't want to purchase low end junk and have seen many repros in the past that were low quality.

How are the Armi sport models as far as quality goes? I know that Marstar carries them but it is not possible to play touchy feely ahead of purchase. How does Euroarms compare?

I don't mind spending in the upper neighbourhood or $800 to $1000 but want something that is well made.

Euroarms has a reputation for quality and Armi Sport has a reputation for good price. Armi Sport muskets are approved by the, NSSA, North-South Skirmish Association. If you buy an Armi Sport and you don't like the quality send it back. You would just eat the shipping. If you don't want Armi Sport your choices are the Euroarms 1862 C.S. Richmond Musket, 1855 US model and the Pedersoli 1861 Springfield. Euroarms has a Canadian distributor.

Thanks for the answers Steppenwolf!

I am quite attracted to the 1863 Richmond. I see that both armi and euro make them and they retail for the same price! Armi at Marstar is $899 and the Euroarms is $901 at Loyalist. I just wish that Pedersoli would expand its line of CW muskets...

I only really want to do this once and just looking for a second opinion on which one is a better overall value. I want a quality musket. Is euroarms superior over Armi?
