So my friend just bought a sig P226, and I noticed a couple of differences. I posted a thread a few days ago asking about my sig, and got some really nice information from SigBoy (Thanks so much!!) and I was just wondering about the differences...:

Mine: Outside Extractor
Friends: Inside Extractor (Milled vs stamped receiver/frame?)

Mine: U 862 ###
Friends: U 769 ### (no idea what those mean...other than mine was one of the last batch of imports from Germany)

Mine: "DE" markings on Fram and lower receiver
Friends: No "DE" markings, but saids "Made in Germany" under the "P226" markings, on the right side of frame. (I think both mean the samething?)

Mine: frame looks rounds and smooth around the ejector ports
Friends: frame is flattened a bit from near the front sight to the ejector port. There is also a U shaped thing "cradling" the ejector port...hard to describe..but I've been told that these mean something?

Mine: "BA" (2010)
Friends: "AH" (2007), Whats the story about the manufacturing process for these two years...?

Mine: a round thing around the firing pin place when you take off the frame, the right side looks more hollow with 2 oval shaped hollow points
Friends: A square thing as opposed to the round thing I have. right side is a rectangular block...looks more solid?

Mine: A more dark, glossy frame finish
Friends: A more grey-ish, mat finish.

I'm sure they are both great great guns, but I'm just really interested in knowing some of the stories behind these guns and the background information etc.

Thanks soo soo much in advance!!!!

"old skool" original German SIGs were made without rail and with stamped/folded carbon steel slide, internal extractor, removable fire blocks (all these models has German DE proof/year punch/mark and with serials on slide, frame and barrels)
new US made SIGs are made with acc rails, machined from one block SS slides, has German made frames, but the rest is assembled in US nowadays...

really? they both have the letter coded year mark on the side...

The milled receiver seem to have the DE marking, while the milled has the "Made in Germany" instead of the DE.

Also I thought the US assembled ones have UU instead U as the serial number?

Mine: Outside Extractor
Friends: Inside Extractor (Milled vs stamped receiver/frame?)
YES inside extractor is normal for stamped top (including x5 x6 old style)
Mine: U 862 ###
Friends: U 769 ### (no idea what those mean...other than mine was one of the last batch of imports from Germany)
Serial numbers.....
Mine: "DE" markings on Fram and lower receiver
Friends: No "DE" markings, but saids "Made in Germany" under the "P226" markings, on the right side of frame. (I think both mean the something?)
Both are german guns, yours we all know are the last made there before they move production to US, all internal extractors are made only in Germany .

They mean nothing other than parts associated with the extraction system ......
Mine: "BA" (2010)

Friends: “AH" (2007), Whats the story about the manufacturing process for these two years...?
Yes A=0, B=1.....you get it ( for the exact check the webs as some letters don’t fallow as they should)
Mine: a round thing around the firing pin place when you take off the frame, the right side looks more hollow with 2 oval shaped hollow points
Friends: A square thing as opposed to the round thing I have. right side is a rectangular block...looks more solid?
Same think, different systems...
Mine: A more dark, glossy frame finish
Friends: A more greyish, mat finish.
Could be, one is Ilaflon finish while the other is standard Sig finish. Ilaflon is way way darker and looks wet all times....

They are both German made but a bit different as they are 2 different generations. All you guys need now is a super deal (vendors should respond.......lol) on 1k of ammo each and find who can shoot more before your hands will fail.
Cheers

From what i heard UU was used for the remaining “parts guns” assembled or partially made in US and after that they will start a new system numbers only no letters.
This is 226 line and this was 2010 talk. Don’t know what happened as i give up following Cohen”s effort to “remake” SIG. I’m glad i still have a few brand new in grease of the old guns is i ever need parts for my shooting needs lol.
People should understand whats going on before the weekly debate US vs German made starts again.

Hey man, Much thanks again for the great info! It's nearly impossible to find 9mm bulk ammo these days...(the winchester value pack is what Im thinking). Looking to chew through at least 1K rounds before the end of the year! 9mm ammo sells so freggin fast these days....but yeah, thanks so much again!

PS: I know they are serial numbers haha, just wondering if they tell a tale or not xD

About the proof marks on frames barrels slides......etc. Even made in Germany but for North American market will not get the little stamps as will cost them more to have them on (they are done by proof houses all over Europe) and the are not required. Yes our friends from south they never joint the rest of the world when it comes to that and other “stuff” that needs checked or tested...you get the picture. Few years back they had parts to make some 100k more pistols (most from parts made as spare or warranty/back up parts). So all the little symbols missing from our guns are all thanks to Cohen effort to make more money.
BTW the answer to US vs German guns debate is a very simple economical move where they cut everything they could to make more money for the investors. They change to cheaper parts, cheaper “mill specs” finishes even plastics used for grips are just lower quality. So they just cut every corner possible so at the end of the year they “SAVE” so much showing that as profits.
So back to pistols so many transition guns are 100% German made but not marked as such. Only the later once are just junk made in a hurry and sold for the same prices like before or more......

The UU serial numbers have been around since the late 90's. They denote guns that have American-made slides and frames, while the U serial numbers denote German frame/American slide hybrids. When Sig moved production to NH, they continued to import the bulk of the frames from Germany, while slowly phasing in a limited number of American-made frames. The latter were given UU serial numbers.

There are Sigs made in the U.S with internal extractors. The P228 is still produced for the U.S military in the same configuration it was adopted in (internal extractor), but now built in the U.S.
