Ok.....I'm new to this section. I have decided to turn my attention to competetive rifle shooting....but dont know anything about it. Where should I start. I live in the Okanagan valley in BC. What rifle should I use, I would prefer an AR type of platform? Can I use my M14 for competetive shooting? Can someone get me started...? Thanks guys.

Check put the BCRA under the Service rifle section. I am sure someone from BC will be along shortly to fill you in on the details.

Yep, gas guns like that are the domain of Service Rifle sorts of matches. If your interest can be swayed towards "precision" shooting versus minute-of-fig.11 target I suggest you give F-Class some thought. Sorry to say you won't keep up to the pack with a gas gun though....

Mysticplayer is in Summerland. He is a good person to get to know if you are interested in trying long distance competitive shooting.

Come to Kamloops on the last weekend of September and you can see what that is all about.

There are pay tactical rifle courses of fire taught in AB and S'toon. If you want to get range time with a (hopefully) knowledgible observer, that is a start. But finding a lifelong shooting buddy is cheaper and more satisfactory, sort of like a whisky dolly vs a loving wife.

If you contact Bob Pitcairn at rpitcairn@bcrifle.org he will be able to help you with all the information you require. He is the director of service rifle in the BCRA. The AR platform is the way to go to be competitive, but to start you will be just fine with an M14 while learning the ropes.

If there is anything I can help you with feel free to PM me.

Mike Cook
BCRA Tactical rifle director

X2 on Jerry (Mysticplayer)

As for Kamloops, see the Frosty Farky thread in this forum. I'll be trying long range competition for the first time there myself...

Where are you? If in Vernon/Kelowna, the Vernon club puts on some military/tactical fun shoots all through the summer. There is some IPSC in Kelowna but not sure if that is 3 gun????

I shoot LR and F class. There are some fun shoots in Osoyoos from 1000m to rimfire BR.

Lots to choose from.

If near Summerland, give me a shout.

Jerry
