In light of the fac that a number of questions have been asked about suggestions and recommmendations for starter equipment, I hope I will be permitted the lattitide to post this here.
On 19 and 20 June at Vokes Military Range in Chilliwack, the BC Rifle Association is holding an annual 300-600M shoot involving both F-Class and TR shooting. As of this year the BCRA now has a "factory Sporter" class, which is intended to encourage "precision-curious" shooters to come out and play with the equipment they already own, without any need to invest in specialized equipment.
Not only is this shoot FUN, it is also incredibly educational. The shooters that come out for this are all great people (there are now spouses participating too!) that simply love getting together and shooting at the world's most beautiful rifle range.
Our crowd of F-Class types would welcome new shooters with open arms.
Not only can you enjoy the shooting, you will find that you can chat face-to-face with those shooters that actually shoot in competitive shooting sports and learn what they know about the types of equipment, the calibers and the optics used. You will be surprised to see that the majority of F-Class shooters use modified factory actions, not expensive custom stuff, but you'll see a bit of everything.
Sharing the mounds and literally getting paired up with these shooters is a lesson you simply cannot get from hours on forums such as these.
You must be a member of the BCRA to shoot on military ranges, but a new member is given an introductory rate for his first membership ($30)
